DERAIN'S GAZE
The heart is perhaps the most direct and universal symbol of life and affection. Throughout history, it has been understood as the center of emotion, vital energy, and human experience.
In this work, I materialize it through a faceted volume in aquamarine resin, supported by a block of marble. The intense, deep color evokes both the vibration of a precious stone and the contained calm of the sea, while the stone provides weight, anchorage, and permanence.
The piece is conceived through Alix's gaze in André Derain's portrait: a gaze charged with intensity, presence, and contained emotion. Here, that gaze does not observe a face, but seems to pierce the heart itself, turning it into a space of resonance between the emotional and the essential.
